  • Family Counselling

Family and relationship counselling focuses on the relationship between the couple and aims to facilitate healing, reconciliation and well-being.

Discussing marital or relationship problems is a sensitive matter and requires a safe, confidential environment and a trustworthy and competent counsellor. At St. Brigids we respect the users of our service and encourage participation in the planning and effective use of counselling sessions.

We are flexible about appointments, offering evening as well as daytime meetings to facilitate work and family commitments.

In 2010 demand for services continued to increase and the range and complexity of problems being presented has significantly increased. These are the typical problems experienced in recession times, debt worries, unemployment etc. However the service is also experiencing a high level of stress and anxiety in many cases.

Self-referral is a cornerstone of the Couple/Relationship counselling service, which aims to respond promptly to those seeking counselling. Some people are in crisis when they approach. Others have made a considered decision to attend. Referrals are also received from G.P.’s and other professionals within the local area.

During 2010 the Couple and Relationship Counselling Service provided 2,900 adult counselling hours to 103 couples and 262 individuals.
