CE Scheme
The Community Employment Scheme (CE Scheme) is funded by the Dept. of Employment & Social Protection and is designed to give long term unemployed people the experience and training needed to help them to progress to employment.
St Brigid’s is a sponsor on the scheme and currently has 20 participants and one supervisor. The participants play an important part in the running of the centre. They are employed as shop assistants, childcare assistants, accounts/payroll administrators, receptionists, kitchen operatives and assistants with the Citizens Information Centre.
St Brigid’s Centre would not function without the work of the CE Scheme staff.
The benefits for the participants include the opportunity to study for professional qualifications. The structured and supportive environment at St Brigid’s enables the participants to gain valuable experience and to examine future career prospects. All of this helps the participants to progress in their careers after they complete their time on the scheme.
In the present difficult economic and employment climate, the CE Scheme is a valuable source of funding for St. Brigid’s and a good opportunity for people who find themselves in long term unemployment.
